Petzl, original and innovative descenders

In the 1960s, Fernand Petzl, a passionate caving enthusiast and gifted craftsman, imagined tools in his workshop to explore the depths. With the desire to continually improve the equipment he used, he created, innovated, and developed products that he began to market. Among them were Petzl Descenders, carabiners, and a whole range of equipment dedicated to verticality. In 1970, the company Petzl was founded and gradually offered a range that today includes a complete set of climbing, mountaineering, and safety equipment. From Petzl harnesses to headlamps, all mountain gear undergoes numerous tests, both in the lab and in the field, to achieve highly rigorous certifications. The descenders and belay devices, of course, are part of this. The most classic of all, the figure-eight descender, allows for descent on double or single rope. Naturally, the range from the Grenoble-based brand includes more advanced descenders designed to meet all vertical practices.

Petzl Descenders dedicated to all vertical practices

Just as each discipline has its own device, the family business offers different types of descenders. For example, the Reverso descender is a manual braking belay device. Versatile and lightweight, it allows use with one or two strands of Petzl rope and belaying the second from the anchor. Perfect for crag climbing, multi-pitch, and mountaineering, its specific design allows the rope to slide easily through the device while protecting it from wear. On the other hand, the famous Grigri + belay device is particularly suited for learning and intensive use. Equipped with an anti-panic handle, this belay device with assisted braking is perfect for climbing both indoors and outdoors. A selection button allows you to choose between belaying modes for top rope or lead climbing. For long descents of 80 meters or more, the Rack descender is ideal. Easy to handle and practical for caving, it is suitable for semi-static ropes of 9 to 13 mm on one strand or 8 to 11 mm on two strands.
