The N°10 Carbone by Opinel is an enhanced version of the authentic N°10. Its specific carbon steel blade has undergone a heat treatment giving it better wear resistance and a durable sharp edge. We appreciate its beech handle from French forests, which is easy to maintain and protected by varnish. Its Virobloc locking mechanism allows the knife to be securely folded for safe travel or locked in the open position during use. Robust and versatile, the N°10 Carbone by Opinel is the knife reserved for the most demanding (and careful) users.

  • Blade length: 10 cm
  • Virobloc safety ring
  • Carbon steel blade
  • Beech handle from French forests
  • Weight: 75 g

Carbon Steel: Opinel carbon steel is a non-alloy steel with a high carbon content, allowing for excellent hardness after heat treatment, which guarantees a perfect edge retention, high wear resistance, and easy resharpening. However, carbon steel has low resistance to corrosion from humidity, so it requires careful use: do not leave your knife in a damp environment, especially in the dishwasher, wipe the blade with an oily cloth after use, and frequently oil both the blade and its joint.

Handle: Beech is the most commonly used wood for Opinel handles. Sourced from French forests, it is hard, durable, and easy to work with. Its uniform appearance ranges in color from yellow to pinkish and is recognizable by the presence of numerous small dark streaks. The handle is varnished for better protection against moisture and dirt.

Safety Ring: Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives from N°06 upwards. Made from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety during use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety during transport).
