The story of the Mavic brand began in 1889 in Lyon, when two brothers, Léon and Laurent Vielle, started a metal plating business. However, it was some time later that the journey with bicycles began when Charles Idoux and Lucien Chanel ventured into the manufacturing and selling of spare parts for bikes. Quickly, Mavic dedicated itself to producing bicycle rims, and success followed swiftly with Antonin Magne's victory in the 1934 Tour de France, as he was equipped with the brand's first prototypes. Always in pursuit of innovation and new ideas, Mavic conducts numerous field tests to stay at the forefront of technology and offer the highest quality products for cycling. The brand thus became a partner of the Tour de France through its neutral support cars and motorcycles, providing a vast showcase for Mavic and its products. This partnership has lasted for over 40 years.
Among the various innovations and creations from Mavic are quick releases, carbon rims, and more recently, bike wheels compatible with disc brakes, given their increasing popularity in professional cycling races.
