It was in 1965 that the first Smith Optics ski goggles were born. Between his garage and his favourite ski slopes, Dr Bob Smith invented the first thermal, waterproof goggles equipped with breathable foam, a world first. An orthodontist by trade, it was with his strong knowledge in the sciences that he managed to develop these revolutionary lenses that prevent fogging. While the first sales took place from Bob's small van on the edges of Colorado's slopes, success quickly grew. The journey of Smith was underway. New developments followed, always with the desire to offer products that closely meet the needs of skiers. But why settle for ski goggles when such technology can help cyclists, runners, or simply improve the visual protection of everyone? From specialised sunglasses to helmets, Smith Optics has successfully expanded its range and adapted its offerings to various players in the outdoor world, allowing everyone to enjoy the sun, their mountain bike, or the slopes while being well protected. Today, Smith Optics requires much more than a garage to meet the demand from around the world. It is with joy that in 2006, Smith Optics created the Smith MFG factory to continue this momentum!
But what is a waterproof goggle? Before the advent of Smith Optics, ski goggles had the unfortunate tendency to constantly fog up, leading many skiers to prefer not wearing anything at all, risking retinal burns. The revolution came with the addition of a waterproof film and a new ventilation principle to allow the evacuation of fog created by effort. This new invention, later applied to sunglasses, allows everyone to enjoy eye protection without the discomfort caused by condensation. Seeking to further enhance the comfort of its goggles, Smith Optics subsequently developed ski helmets equipped with AirEvac and AirEvac2 systems, providing reliable support during breaks or in bad weather. Continuing its offerings, the same innovations extend to cycling with highly efficient sunglasses and road bike helmets. Take, for example, the Squad range, which has already proven itself on track and trail. This mountain bike goggle will offer you a very clear vision, maximum ventilation, and excellent integration with the helmet, perfectly meeting the needs of the seasoned rider. Supplied with a ChromaPop double lens already mounted and an additional clear lens, you can be sure to be well-equipped for your various activities.
